SUMMER OUTINGS PROGRAMME 2016 ARCHIVE

Except for the end of season Dinner, the Tuesday meetings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. but please assemble a little earlier at the indicated places. There's no limit on numbers but please car-share wherever possible as it often makes parking a little easier. Most evenings involves a walk (usually not more than 2 miles) with interesting photo- opportunities and finish no later than 9 o'clock with a trip to a local hostelry.

• Tuesday 17th May 7 pm: Bluebell walk Leader Frank Milner
  Frank will lead a bluebell walk (if the bluebells are still showing!) Meet at Eyre Arms car park at Hassop for 7 pm start. Car shuttle to start of walk. Approx. 2 mile walk, boots / strong shoes required. Afterwards at Eyre Arms. If the bluebells are finished before 17th May we may announce a replacement walk.

• Tuesday 24th May 7 pm: University Architecture Leader: Peter Mason
  A walk around Sheffield University buildings looking at various old and new architecture (we may be able to arrange access to inside some of them). Meet outside Firth Court on Western Bank (the old red brick university building) at 7pm. Parking available in nearby streets e.g. Hounsfield Road or university car park on Leavygreave (open evenings). Easy walking. Pub afterwards: the Red Deer on Pitt Street, off Mappin Street. Pub discussion: aesthetic contrast between old buildings and new.

• Saturday 4th June: Day trip to Liverpool Leader Richard Hall (07849 262886)
  SPS coach trip to Liverpool. Culture, heritage, two Cathedrals and the Albert Docks plus much more! Board the bus at Abbeydale Road South near junction with Dobcroft Road. Departure 08.00 return approx 18.30. Further info about Liverpool will be provided.

• Tuesday 14th June 7 pm: Pleasley Pit Leader: John Scholey.
  Visit to Pleasley Pit Country Park (NG19 7PH). From M1 Junc 29 take the A617 towards Mansfield. After 2.5 miles, pass through Glapwell, there is a short stretch of dual carriageway to a roundabout. Take 3rd exit, the one after the A617 towards Mansfield. Almost immediately turn right up Pit Lane, drive to the top, car park on the left for Pleasley Pit. Meet in the car park at 7pm. (Approx 45 mins travel from south Sheffield). There will be access to the pithead building managed by the Pit Trust (donation required, e.g. £3) with intact machinery. Also the local nature reserve run by the Pleasley Pit Nature Study Group (PPNSG). Common spotted and bee orchids, other wild flowers. • Thursday 23rd June 6 pm for 6.30: Summer Dinner
  City College Sparks Restaurant. Great food; excellent value for money. Partners and friends very welcome. Don't miss it! Meet at Sparks 06.00 for 06.30. (Ample parking at the college.) Please sign up with John Ferretti.

• Tuesday 28th June 7 pm: Millers Dale. Leader Stuart Davies
  A walk around the Millers Dale area. Meet at 7pm in Millers Dale Station Car Park (on the Monsal Trail). Near SK17 8SN. Please note the road through Litton may be closed due to road works.

• Saturday 9th July: Day trip to Ironbridge and Blists Hill. Leader Richard Hall (07849 262886).
  SPS coach trip to Ironbridge and Blists Hill Victorian Town Museum. Birth place of the industrial revolution, attractive gorge and bridge, various museums and sites. (Museum entry will be extra). Board the bus at Abbeydale Road South near junction with Dobcroft Road. Departure 08.00 return approx 19.00. • Tuesday 12th July 7 pm: City Street Art. Leader:Gareth Morgan
  A walk around some less salubrious parts of Sheffield with urban environment and street art as the photographic subjects. Meet on Howard St at 7pm - under the Andrew Motion poem (Opposite the entrance to the Science Park); lots of car parking in the vicinity.

• Tuesday 26th July 7 pm: Wyming Brook. Leader: Richard Hall
  Walk to Wyming Brook. Lots of beautiful waterfalls. Meet at the Car Park at the top of Wyming Brook for 7 pm start. (On right side of road from Lodgemoor to Redmires). Appox 2 mile walk, boots/strong shoes required, my be muddy in parts. Afterwards at Three Merry Lads Redmires Road.

During the course of the next few months members may come up with information about 'open days', re-enactments, special events etc. which may well be of photographic interest to members. Watch this website and/or announcements at Society meetings.
